We are very pleased to have Tim and Sandra Gray as our speakers.
In honour of Remembrance Day they will reflect on the life of a First World War soldier through letters and other personal items of family members who joined the war effort as well as Tim’s research into the general milieu of the time.
Tim and Sandra live in Guelph. Sandra grew up as the 6th generation on a mixed farm in Nassagaweya, now known as Terre Bleu Lavender Farm. As they both had close relatives participate in WW 1 Tim has done extensive research on this war period and they had the opportunity in 2008 to visit various war sites in France and Belgium, including visiting the grave site of one of Tim’s family members.

The volunteer crew was made up of six men from across the country: pilot William Bennet Rogers, co-pilot William Joseph Kyle, wireless operator Charles Peter McLaren, navigator David McLean Cameron, wireless operator Stanley James Cox, and cargo handler Cornelius John Kopp. Their average age was 22. Lost over Burma: Search for Closure weaves together their lives and wartime experiences--through the memories of colleagues and families--with scenes of the dramatic 1996 mission into the Burmese jungle to recover their remains and the emotion-laden funeral near Rangoon, where they have finally been laid to rest with full military honours.

We have gathered so much material we now have our archives housed at the Nassagaweya Tennis Centre and Community Hall at Guelph Line and Campbellville Sideroad. We are planning on opening to the public one day a month on a weekend in the very near future. We are always looking for new members and also will welcome any youth that is interested in their local history, we would be happy to give volunteer hours.
To help with this process we have annual fundraisers. This year we are having an Autumn Afternoon Tea on Saturday October 21st, from 2-4 p.m. We are holding this event at Ebenezer United Church, 12274 Guelph Line, Campbellville. Hoping this will be a lovely day to drive to north rural Milton to enjoy the autumn scenery. The cost is $25 per person (special rate for groups of 8 and more purchased in advance). Not only Tea, sandwiches and sweets to enjoy, but also Dan Kranstz, an illusionist, will walk around and visit each table. Yes there is a door prize or two. Special hats are also welcome. Also Raffle Tickets will be sold for Draws on a variety of Gift Baskets. Our Local History Books will also be available for purchase.
Please pass this on to friends, family, neighbours that are new or old to the community and may not have heard of us.
Looking forward to your support
